While Byron has made a name for itself as a beauty spot, with its pristine beaches and lush rainforests, the town has so much more going on than surface level beauty.
Indeed with cafes, bars, and top-notch restaurants at every corner it’s become something of a foodie haven and breakfast in Byron Bay is a ritual in its own right.

1. FOLK
Folk is another vegan/vegetarian-friendly cafe that’s redefining what it means to eat clean.
You can find this Instagram-worth venue a little bit off the well-worn path in a white-washed cabin surrounded by trees.
The menu is chock-full of delicious options, take this for a sampler; organic buckwheat banana hotcakes, a double egg roll, and its namesake Folk burrito, which just has to be experienced firsthand as words don’t do it justice.

2. BAYLEAF CAFE
When you walk past Bayleaf, expect to see it busy for this is one of Byron’s most popular cafes – and for good reason.
Located on Marvell Street, it offers an ever-changing seasonal menu, and serves a fun and friendly vibe inside.
Bayleaf has worked very hard to create its innovative offerings, which showcases local, and where possible, organic produce.
It’s a must-visit. Just make sure you get there early!

3: ESPRESSOHEAD CAFE
So, one can’t talk about cafes without taking the morning cuppa into account. And if you search “where’s the best coffee in Byron Bay” you’re bound to get a multitude of options.
Espressohead, as the name suggests, is all about coffee and has been a local haunt for years, for it produces a darn good cuppa.
Located in the heart of Byron, its menu is full of breakfast options ranging from healthy, to the not so healthy.
Think, smashed peas and poached eggs on toast, all the way to buttermilk pancakes and their signature – the delicious Espressohead breakfast roll.

4: Sparrow Cafe
If Allpress coffee, organic sourdough and pastries on the go, are your idea of a good breakfast/brunch, Sparrow Cafe is the place for you.
This pocket-sized cafe has been serving customers since 2015 and is great for a quick bite, so you can get back to adventuring.

5: Sunday Sustainable Bakery
In our opinion Sunday Sustainable Bakery is one of the best cafes in Byron Bay, as everything in house is made by hand.
What’s more, it showcases local and sustainable produce from the Northern Rivers region.
The menu is forever-changing, which means it’s a great way to get a taste of Byron.

6: The Pass Cafe
Have you been searching for a beach cafe in Byron Bay?
Look no further than the Pass Cafe, which is situated on its namesake beach, overlooking one of the area’s most famous surf breaks.
An all-day breakfast menu is offered up in this leafy green setting.
Here you can sit and take in the sound of the crashing waves as you dine on meals like corn, halloumi and pea fritters or an amazing burger if you’ve worked up an appetite in the ocean; we highly recommend the yakitori grilled chicken burger.

7: High Life
With perfect coffee, incredible food and a relaxed, friendly vibe – you can’t go wrong with a visit to High Life, which showcases organic and seasonal produce.
It offers everything from light bites and smaller plates, to an absolute standout dish, a smoked cheese toastie with tomato sugo, salsa verde…Honestly it’s worth booking a trip just to get your taste buds around this tasty morsel.

8: Roadhouse
Roadhouse is one of those all-rounder venues that’s there for you no matter what.
It’s open for breakfast, brunch, lunch – closes for a few hours, and is back for dinner with live tunes, every day apart from Tuesday.
Trust us when we say fun will be had at this light-filled, shabby chic venue… and if you visit at the right time of the year, you might be lucky and get a bowl of their famous ramen.

9: The Byron Bay General Store
The General Store in Byron Bay has a carefully crafted seaside aesthetic including white exterior, wood floors, rustic seating and large umbrellas. Seen here after closing hours the store can often be found with a line out the door.[/caption]
The Byron Bay General Store is an institution, and a visit is not complete without popping by as, fun fact, it’s one of the oldest buildings in town, established in 1947.
The vegetarian-friendly cafe has all your breakfast and brunch needs covered, with options like truffled mushroom toast, vegan koftas and the must-try halloumi burger.

10: Top Shop
Byron Bay coffee shops don’t get more unique than Top Shop, which is actually a converted 1950s milk bar atop a hill – just up from Clarkes Beach.
This laid-back hangout has become popular as it slings single origin coffee, and an extensive burger selection – we can’t go past their fish burger, which often sells out.
With that said, it also serves up colourful breakfast bowls, and cracking sandwiches and salads for those after something a little bit lighter.
Honestly, there’s something for everyone at Top Shop.

11: Combi
Combi has become a bit of an icon for Byron Bay breakfast cafes as it serves light vegetarian and vegan-friendly brunch staples, which is just perfect for those who need a break from all that rich holiday eating.
Their breakfast bowls showcase exotic, colourful fruits – and their pesto crumpets are out of this world.
If your system is crying out for a reset, pop Combi on the list.

12: Harvest Newrybar
Nestled in the Byron Hinterland, Harvest Newybar has become a destination in its own right!
Not only does it have a cafe, there’s also a historic bakery, coffee cart, local deli and a village green.
Hours can be whiled away sampling locally sourced produce here, and their menu changes with the seasons so they’re always innovating.

13: Beach Kiosk
Set on the headland of Clarkes Beach, this has to be one of the most picturesque spots to welcome the day and break your fast.
The Kiosk has become a go-to for locals and travellers alike as it showcases a fresh, seasonal menu, complemented with sunshine and the sound of crashing waves.
Our recommendation; Sit back on one of their outdoor picnic rugs or tables and enjoy their to die-for breakfast roll, which comes complete with bacon, egg, hashbrown, cheese, relish.

14: Dip Cafe
If you’re craving a touch of France during your stay in Byron then head on over to Dip Cafe, which is loved by locals as much as tourists.
This French Bistro Cafe has become renowned for their tasty all-day brunch menu – and we’re happy to report they brew some darn good coffee too.

15: Three Blue Ducks
And this list wouldn’t be complete without a mention of the Three Blue Ducks, which you can find at The Farm.
Sydneysiders, Melbournians and Queenslanders may already be familiar with the name as the country plays host to five, (almost six) venues; helmed by Mark Labrooy, Darren Robertson, Andy Allen, Chris Sorrell, Sam Reid-Boquist and Jeff Benne.
It’s not an overstatement to say Three Blue Ducks has irrevocably transformed Australia’s cafe culture, indeed they were the first cafe to be invited to the Good Food Guide restaurant awards.
Byron’s version is set on a sweeping 80-acre working farm and Macadamia Orchard. Produce is showcased in its freshest form and the menu changes with the seasons.
It’s a must-visit.
